A new year brings new questions, such as 'why are we wasting our national budget on that which is unimportant instead of finishing the Superconducting Super Collider?'

Where to begin with these news articles? First, we have a person who is facing up to seventy-five years in jail for videotaping the police without their consent.¹ Yes, the penalty in Illinois is as bad as for rape.² Did I mention that it is perfectly legal for the police to record you?³

This next article may be a bit old, but it is still important. According to Forbes.com, the same technology that is used to see beneath your clothing at air ports has been rolling through your towns in the back of a van.⁴ The company producing these vans, American Science & Engineering, according to the article, has claimed domestic use by law enforcement in addition to their use in Iraq and Afghanistan.⁵

Our last article is equally absurd. A bill in congress - sponsored by Democrat Kay Hagan of North Carolina - now aims to eliminate overtime benefites for many IT workers who make $27.63 or more per hour.⁶ Of course, there is not provision for the amount that can be made by executives or others high in the corporations. Say, is there anything of relevance to this article now being built in NC that may be the basis for this bill?
